10 million girls is NOT a small number!

"It is estimated that 10 million girls a year worldwide, the majority in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, are married under the age of 18, some as young as 7 or 8" (Crossette, 2012). Ten million is an astonishing number of girls, all of them victims of child marriage. These girls are being forced to live their life with a stranger starting at the age of as young as seven. Imagine yourself at the age of seven, what was that time like in your life? Did you ever of getting married at that age? Obviously not, while we were and still are having the time of our lives, several girls out there who are younger than us are being forced to get married. Several others are victims of being child prostitution and rape. We all believe that child marriage is mostly common in Asia and Africa. However, it is not that way. For example, the minimum marriage age for girls on New Hampshire is 13 under parents consent. Even though it is under parent consent, what if the bride herself is not ready? Does she have any rights? Once again, imagine yourself in place of such girls. Did you ever think of how it would be to be forced for marriage at such a young age? Young girls are dressed up as a brides at an age when they have just learned their first words and steps couple years back. Girls are married off at an age when they have no idea what a marriage itself is. Why? I don't even see a point of getting two people married at such an early age when they haven't even faced the real world. The worst case is when girls are married off to a man who is 10-20 years older to them. It frustrates me to try to think of the parent's point of view. I cant because I don't see any point, any reason for getting them married at an early age. There's nothing wrong in getting them married, but why when they're not even perfect at eating their food by themselves? If I could, I would save each and every girl form being a victim of this, and the one who are suffering such abuses. Stop child marriage. Stop child marriage. STOP CHILD MARRIAGE!
